MICROBLADING FAQs
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a manual method of semi-permanent cosmetics for your eyebrows which creates extremely fine, natural looking hair strokes. Pigment is implanted beneath the surface of the skin using a tiny, sterile, disposable tool. Microblading is meant to provide subtle, natural enhancement to the brow.
How old do I have to be to be microbladed?
You must be 18 years or older to receive microblading services.
Is Microblading painful?
A highly effective topical anesthetic cream is applied to the brow area before your procedure. During the procedure. lidocaine is applied to the area to keep you comfortable. The process can be a little uncomfortable at times for those who are more sensitive. If applicable, you may experience heightened sensitivity during your menstrual cycle.
How long does Microblading last?
Microblading is considered semi-permanent and will not wash off, but will fade over time and need to be touched up. Frequency of sessions may be needed 6 months to 2 years depending on the following factors: pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), sun exposure, smoking, bleeding during the procedure, skincare products, medications, chemical peels within the treated area. PLEASE NOTE that final results cannot be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates.
How many Microblading sessions will I need?
All Microblading sessions require AT LEAST 2 sessions. Each of these sessions are included in the Microblading cost. There is an initial session to establish the shape and lay a foundation. A second session is performed 6-8 weeks later. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your fist session does not heal perfectly, do not worry! During this second session your pigment retention will be assessed and any adjustments will be made. Additionally, the shape and density will be perfected. This follow-up session will also increase the longevity of your Microblading. Previously tattooed eyebrows may require one or two additional appointments (charged accordingly) and rarely achieve similar results to those who have no previous tattoo work.
What type of pigments do you use?
The pigments that we use are specially formulated synthetic pigments that can be mixed to achieve a variety of colors and tones. I do not use pigments made from organic ingredients such as vegetables as they may have a high risk of carrying bacteria and causing allergic reactions. Additionally, my pigments do not contain iron-oxides which can turn red over time and may have the presence of heavy metals and magnetic features.
How long does the procedure take?
The initial session takes approximately 2.5- 3 hours. This includes filling out paperwork, numbing, the designing process, and tattooing. Follow-up appointments take approximately 1.5- 2 hours.
Is it safe?
Absolutely! We pride ourselves on having an immaculate and sterile studio space. We only use single use, disposable needles and supplies. All needles have individual lot numbers and sterilization dates. Additionally, all cross contamination guidelines are strictly adhered to. The station is thoroughly disinfected before any procedure as well as after.
Is Microblading right for me?
Factors to consider associated with skin type include:
o Oily Skin: Microblading heals best on normal to dry skin types. Microblading may not work well on more oily skin types or large pores. Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal with a more powdered effect.
o Mature Skin: Tends to be thinner and more delicate which can increase the likelihood of bleeding and loss of pigment.
o Previously Tattooed Brows: Previous tattooing must be very faded or nearly invisible. Additionally, scar tissue associated with previous tattooing or tattoo removal may affect pigment retention. A consultation is always required if your brows have been previously tattooed.
o Rosacea: Not recommended to be Microbladed. If you have little to no brow hairs present, the results will appear more 2D and it is possible that you may need more than 2 sessions to achieve your desired result and will be charged accordingly.
Microblading is meant to blend with your natural brow hair to produce the most realistic results. Microblading is not meant to entirely replace makeup. Eyebrow pencils and powders may still be needed.
You CAN NOT receive Microblading if you are:
o Pregnant or nursing
o Tendency to keloid
o Under 18 years old
o Are currently on Accutane or have used Accutane within the past 6 months
o Have a freshly tanned or sunburned face
o Currently on blood thinning medications
o Have Rosacea
o Major heart problems
o Allergic to Lidocaine, Tetracaine, or Epinephrine
o Botox within 3 weeks
o Sick (Cold, flu etc.)
o Diabetic
What can expect during the procedure?
Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out paperwork and provide a photo ID. We will then begin the numbing process and take a patch test to ensure that you are not allergic to the ink. During the numbing process I will review all of the pertinent information in the paperwork, including aftercare. We will then begin the mapping process where we design your brow shape and position. We will work together to create brows that are flattering and natural looking. If you have an ideal shape and color in mind, it is your responsibility to explain your desire for specific shape, color, and position. Reference photos are always helpful and welcomed! Once a shape is determined and approved, the actual Microblading process will begin. Additional anesthetics will be applied throughout the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. After the Microblading is completed, you are shaped using a hand tweezing method by our master level brow shaping specialist.
How will I look immediately after? What is the healing process?
Your eyebrows will appear darker, bolder, more sharply defined and more intense than expected for the first week or so. This will gradually lighten during the healing process. Redness and swelling is minimal. The treated area may feel like a sunburn afterwards, but there should be minimal discomfort. During the initial healing period, there may be scabbing or flaking of the skin. You must not pick or rub the scabs or dry skin as you may accidentally pull out the pigment. The complete healing process can take anywhere from 5-8 weeks at which time the true, healed color will be revealed. The strokes can look very light, invisible, milky, grey, or pink during this process while the skin is regenerating. You must wait until at least 5 weeks to see the true color.
What do I need to do for aftercare?
Try to keep the brow area dry. If you must clean the brows, you may use lukewarm water to gently clean off the area. DO NOT use soaps or cleansers on the microbladed area. Let the brows air dry. You may apply a small amount of the aftercare oil provided (organic cold-pressed grapeseed oil) sparingly as needed for discomfort or
dryness. Try to avoid heavy sweating, sun exposure, or sleeping on your face for the first 10 days. You may not apply makeup to the microbladed area for 10-14 days following the procedure. You must avoid swimming or soaking in pools, hot tubs, or oceans while you are healing.
Do I need a consultation first?
We offer complimentary 15 minute consultations to anyone who would like to discuss the process before booking an appointment. While a consultation is not required for all procedures, it is required that you schedule a consultation for corrective work or have had your brows tattooed elsewhere.
